Skiing in Ruka

January is usually not the most common time to hit Lapland as it is freezing cold, but I was there anyways with a large group of old and new friends, to Ruka to be exact as we also had a seminar day planned. As I mentioned earlier on a video I haven't been skiing in forever and this time it seemed to be to cold to do it. -20C no thanks. You couldn't even stand on the ground and not freeze, so keeping up the movement was the only way to go. And of course some hot Minttu hot chocolate. 

Fortunately the air is not as humid in Lapland as it is in the south. When we arrived the -12C didn't seem that impossible and I had only one pair of long johns and it seemed enough. The landscape in Lapland was just breathtaking. See the pics for yourself and let me know, do you agree? On our last day the temperature fortunately rose to -2C and it was actually quite enjoyable and I thought this is my chance to hit the slopes. It was sooo worth it I'm telling you. At first it was quite windy though and you couldn't really see much but just watching at the never-ending piles of snow wherever you looked, all I can say is wow. 

Saturday had gone a little long so what comes to the foods it was just your basic skiing menu: french fries and coke. I didn't realize that you actually could get the fries portion half smaller so I had this huge bowl of fries waiting for me. Even I couldn't finish them and I like fries. Dinner continued in the same direction, pizza at the Classic Pizza Ruka. Once again, I managed to find the portion with goat cheese so I went for the Rucola Crudo. It was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend. Well that and getting to my own bed after the airport. You have a favorite place to ski at?

Tammikuun loppu ei yleensä ole sitä perinteisimpää aikaa lapinlomalle, mutta sinne tuli kuitenkin suunattua ison porukan kanssa jossa oli sekä uusia että vanhoja ystäviä. Olihan meillä yksi päivä varattu myös seminaaria varten ettei ihan huviksi mennyt. Ruka oli siis päätepiste ja olin itse onneksi Kuusamon lennolla enkä Oulun lennolla, sinne matkustavilla oli edessään vielä pitkä bussimatka. Mainitsin aiemmin videollani, että lasketteluun on tullut hieman pidempi tauko. Eikä nuo -20C pakkasetkaan Rukalla oikein houkuttaneet. Siinä ei auttanut muu kuin hyppiä paikallaan jos mieli pysyä lämpimänä. Olihan tietysti Minttukaakaosta myös apua. 

Onneksi kuitenkin Lapin ilma ei ole yhtä kosteaa kuin etelässä, joten saapumislämpötila -12C ei tuntunut kovinkaan kylmältä yhdellä aluskerrastolla. Lapin maisemia ei voi sanoin kuvailla, ne ovat aivan henkeäsalpaavat. Katsokaa itse kuvia ja kertokaa mitä mieltä olette. Viimeisenä päivänä oli jo parempi sää ja vain -2C pakkasta joten sain vihdoin tilaisuuteni päästä rinteeseen. Odotus oli sen arvoista. Päivä oli aika tuulinen ja näkyvyys huono, mutta sen korvasi silmänkantamattomiin ulottuvat lumikasat, ei voi sanoa muuta kuin vautsi vau.

Lauantai-ilta pääsi hieman venähtämään joten sunnuntaina teki sitten mieli mässäillä. Eli siis perus rinneruokaa, ranskalaisia ja kokista. Tajusin tosin liian myöhään että ranskalaisista olisi saanut puolet pienemmän annoksen niin tulipa nyt sitten mätettyä pieni yliannostus niitä hetkeksi. Illallislinja meni samaan suuntaan, koko porukka pizzalle Rukan Classic Pizzaan. Jälleen kerran onnistuin bongaamaan listalta vuohenjuuston joten päädyin Rucola Crudo pizzaan. Oli muuten hyvää ja täydellinen lopetus täydelliselle viikonlopulle. Omaan sänkyyn pääseminen ehkä tuntui kyllä hieman paremmalta kuin pizza mutta kuitenkin.
