Norsen 150

A couple of weeks ago we had this big night to celebrate our old middle and high school on its 150th anniversary. The instant I found out about it I decided I have to go there. We started out with some speeches and music performances at school and both the principles held their speeches there too. It was also possible to walk around in school and see all the old class rooms. It really brought up some memories. I remember my high school home room and my Latin class with all the intriguing maps about ancient Rome. I had Latin classes there for six whole years. Not to forget our music class or the great hall where I played the flute in the school orchestra for all those years with my friends in every single spring concert, Christmas party and end of the school year celebration (twice every time, first middle school then high school celebration). 

From there we moved to restaurant Bank which is really close to celebrate the evening and meet more old friends. The invite was only for old students, teachers and others who have engaged in the school's operations. We enjoyed some bubbly for starters before moving into the main room. Since almost 600 people were attending the seniors (graduating class 1900-) were set downstairs in the main area and all juniors (graduating class 2000-) were set in the upper floor. Everyone was sitting together with the people they graduated with so it made it easy to catch up with old friends. The food was good and the company even better even if a big part of our class was missing. It felt like high school never ended but that people had just grown up a bit. I've gone to school with some of these people ever since middle school continuing now in university so that's a long time. After dinner it was time for some dancing and more mingling and I said hi to some of my old teachers. I gotta give them credit. Some of them have been my teachers in middle school which is over ten years ago and still remember me. And they have taught hundreds of kids after me it's amazing. We stayed at the party with my friends for a while but then  headed to Teatteri to continue the evening. For everyone participating, thanks!

Pari viikkoa sitten ilmassa oli suurta juhlaa kun keräännyimme juhlimaan vanhan yläasteeni ja lukioni 150-vuotisjuhlaa. Heti kun sain tietää juhlasta päätin että sinne on pakko kyllä mennä. Ilta alkoi koululla puheilla ja musiikkiesityksillä ja tietysti myös molemmat rehtorit pitivät omat puheensa. Ihmisillä oli myös mahdollisuus kiertää koululla ja kurkistaa vanhoihin luokkahuoneisiin. Se herätti kyllä paljon muistoja. Muistan lukioaikaisen kotiluokkani ja tietysti latinanluokan kiehtovine antiikin rooman karttoineen. Vietin siinä luokassa kuusi vuotta opiskellen latinaa koulussa. Ja kukaan ei myöskään voi unohtaa opettajaamme. Tärkeitä minulle olivat myös musiikkiluokka ja tietysti juhlasali, jossa soitin huilua koulun orkesterissa ystävieni kanssa kuusi vuotta jokaisessa kevätkonsertissa, joulujuhlassa ja päättäjäisissä (ensin yläasteen ja perään lukion juhlassa).

Sieltä siirryimme ravintola Bankiin jatkamaan iltaa ja tapaamaan lisää vanhoja ystäviä. Juhlaan sai osallistua ainoastaan vanhat oppilaat, opettajat sekä muuten koulun toiminnassa mukanaolleet ihmiset. Nautimme hieman kuplivaa ennen pääsaliin siirtymistä. Koska vieraita oli lähes 600 oli istuinpaikat jaettu senioreille(1900- valmistuneet) pääsalissa ja junioreille (2000- valmistuneet) ylätasolla. Kaikki istuivat siis vuosiluokittain joten oli helppo vaihtaa kuulumisia vanhojen ystävien kanssa. Ruoka oli hyvää ja seura parempaa vaikka melkoinen osa luokastamme puuttui. Tuntui siltä kuin lukio ei olisi koskaan loppunutkaan mutta kaikki olivat aikuisempia. Joidenkin kanssa olen käynyt samaa koulua yläasteelta asti aina nykyisiin opintoihini. Ruokailun jälkeen oli tanssin vuoro ja aikaa oli myös seurustella lisää. Kävin myös tervehtimässä vanhoja opettajia. Täytyy kyllä nostaa hattua heille. Jotkut ovat opettaneet minua yläasteella, eli yli kymmenen vuotta sitten ja vieläkin muistavat minut. Sen jälkeenhän he ovat opettaneet satoja nuoria että on se aika ihmeellistä kyllä. Jäimme vielä hetkeksi juhliin ennen kuin suuntasimme Teatteriin jatkamaan iltaa. Kiitos kaikille osallistuneille, minulla oli hauskaa!

Galleria Esplanad VIP evening

I was invited to a VIP evening at the Galleria Esplanad shopping center and it was held last night. I took my friend J with me and we stopped by. I hadn't been there in a while so it was nice to visit. We enjoyed a few glasses of champagne and tasted some delicious Fazer chocolates that are sold exclusively at Fazer Kluuvikatu and Stockmann department store. I especially liked the dark chocolate and raspberry. They're called Magic Cubes. All the stores were open for shopping the entire evening also.

Sain kutsun Galleria Esplanaden VIP-iltaan ja suuntasin sinne ystäväni J:n kanssa eilen. En ole käynyt Esplanadessa (entinen Kämp Galleria) pitkään aikaan joten oli jo korkea aika mennä käymään. Nautimme muutaman lasillisen samppanjaa ja maistelimme suussasulavia Fazer konvehteja, joita myydään yksinoikeudella Fazerin Kluuvikadun kahvilassa sekä Stockmannilla. Näiden nimi on Magic Cube ja ovat aivan kuin Rubikin kuutiot, aukeavat erikoisella tavalla. Taisi niitä muuten olla uusimmassa Stockmann Premiere-lehdessä myös. Erityisesti tumma suklaa ja vadelma kuuluu suosikkeihini jo. 

The theme for the evening was Rome and the place looked like a Roman piazza. One lucky person also won flights to Rome, not too bad. Before heading home we also had a nice dinner and I walked all the way home instead of taking the tram since it was such a nice night and clear sky. I almost got out from the evening without buying anything, except for one thing I couldn't resist. Can you guess what it is? 

Illan teema oli Rooma, ja koko ostoskeskus näytti roomalaiselta piazzalta. Yksi onnekas jopa voitti lennot Roomaan, aika kiva. Ennen kotiinlähtöä söimme vielä illallista ja kävelin koko matkan kotiin spåraan hyppäämisen sijaan koska oli kirkas taivas ja niin nätti ilta. Selvisin melkein ostamatta mitään, mutta yksi asia tarttui mukaan, en vain voinut vastustaa. Arvaatteko mitä?

Training, training and some fun

Another training week I'm satisfied with. Whatever I do it's usually do or die but we only live once and life is short so you gotta enjoy sometimes too and not be too strict. I had a good 6 days of working out but on Saturday I let loose a bit and went out with some friends for a few drinks. We had fun and I don't think that messes too much with my workouts every now and then. Almost time to start a new workout week again. Looking forward to it. It's been about a month since I had a massage so I'm thinking of doing that as muscle care next week too.

Taas treeniviikko takana johon olen tyytyväinen. Kaikki mihin ryhdyn on joko kaikki tai ei mitään-periaatteella. Mutta elämme vain kerran ja elämä on lyhyt joten joskus pitää myös muistaa nauttia. Lauantaina lähdin muutaman ystävän kanssa ulos drinksuille. Meillä oli hauskaa eikä se mielestäni haittaa treenejä pahemmin silloin tällöin. Kohta taas uusi treeniviikko edessä. Odotan sitä. Viime hieronnastakin on jo kuukausi joten olisi taas lihashuollon paikka.

Saturdaaaay

It's February and it started off awfully snowy. I like it cause it's beautiful and white outside but it causes tons of problems to the cities. My day started with an exam after which I came home to grab a quick lunch and then headed to a BodyCombat class where I really gave it all! It felt so good. The day I've spent taking it easy, cleaning the apartment and preparing for tonight. I'm finally gonna see my good friend T whom I haven't seen in probably over a year cause first I went on exchange and then she did and both our schedules have been super busy so I'm really looking forward tonight. We're gonna hang out at my place, gossip, have some wine and such and then head out and hopefully not get stuck in a big heap of snow. While I was cleaning I was dancing to my Spotify party list, that's how I like to do it. There's also a lot to watch on tv tonight, the Finnish live comedy show called Putous and then the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest final is also on, at the same time as Sweden starts their hunt for the Eurovision Song Contest song at Melodifestivalen. Have a nice night!

On helmikuu ja se alkoi lumisempana kuin osasin odottaa. Ulkona on kauniin valkoista, mutta se aiheuttaa kaupungeille paljon ongelmia. Päiväni alkoi tentillä, jonka jälkeen tulin kotiin haukkaamaan pikaisen lounaan ja suuntasin BodyCombat-tunnille. Annoin todella kaikkeni ja fiilis sen jälkeen oli aivan mahtava! Olen viettänyt päivää ottamalla iisisti, siivoamalla kotia ja valmistautumalla iltaan. Hyvä ystäväni T tulee tänne ja emme ole nähneet varmaan yli vuoteen. Ensin minä olin vaihdossa, sitten hän ja molemmilla kiireelliset aikataulut ettei olla ehditty näkemään. Aiomme hengailla minun luonani, hieman juoruilla viinin ja muun kera ja sitten suunnata ulos toivoen ettemme jää jumiin johonkin lumikinokseen. Siivotessani tanssin Spotify bilelistani tahtiin, tykkään siivota sillä tavalla samalla laulaen ja tanssien. Myös televisiossa on paljon ohjelmaa tänään sitä katsoville, Putousta, UMK-finaali ja Ruotsin Melodifestivalenin ensimmäinen karsinta. Hauskaa iltaa kaikille! 

Pump It Up!

On some days you feel like you'd rather just sit on the couch and not head to the gym or out running when it's freezing like this. Solution? Make your home the gym. You can either do regular exercises on the floor or find a workout you like, the Internet is flowing with them. I used to love my mum's old aerobics videos when I was younger. I'm not saying that all these current workout routines wouldn't be fun but there's just something about old time aerobics and dancing. I found one of the most fun workouts I've ever done. It's called Pump It Up and it's performed by the Call On Me-video girls. You remember that song right? I sure remember that was one of the most played songs on my playlist back then. And everyone remembers that dance routine right? Try doing that after almost an hour of cardio. It's fun I gotta admit it but not as easy as it looks. So why not try this? You can skip any parts you like, it's divided into several sections. You can get a good workout done even if you finish when the hour is up and the cool down starts. Every wondered why the dancers on the video dress in next to nothing? Cause when you do it properly you get hot! It even inspired me to get my leg warmers out and dress the same. And it was enough. It's a total body workout, real cardio. But I think I'll skip the leg warmers the next time. Turn up the music and pump it up! Are you ready?

Joinain päivinä tuntuu vain siltä että haluaisi jäädä sohvalle makaamaan eikä raahautua salille tai ulos juoksemaan pakkaseen. Ratkaisu? Tee kodistasti kuntosali. Voit joko tehdä ihan perusliikkeitä lattialla tai etsiä itsellesi sopivan treenin, netti on niitä pullollaan. Nuorempana rakastin äitin aerobic videoita. En sano että tämän hetken treeniohjelmat eivät olisi hauskoja, mutta vanhanajan aerobicissa ja tanssissa on vain sitä jotakin. Löysin yhden kaikkien aikojen hauskimmista treeneistä. Sen nimi on Pump It Up ja sen esittävät Call On Me-videon tytöt. Kaikkihan muistavat sen biisin vai mitä? Aikanaan se oli minun soittolistani soitetuimpia kappaleita. Ja kaikki muistavat sen tanssin eikö niin? Kokeilkaapa sitä on olette hyppineet ja pomppineet lähes tunnin. Se on hauskaa mutta voin sanoa että ei niin helppoa kuin miltä näyttää. Miksi sitten et kokeilisi tätä? Osioita voi jättää väliin, se on jaettu useampaan. Jo tunnissa saa kunnon treenin jos haluaa jättää lopun venyttelyt väliin. Oletteko koskaan miettineet miksi tanssitytöillä ei ole juuri mitään päällään? Koska tanssiessa tulee oikeasti kuuma! Tämä inspiroi minuakin kaivamaan säärystimet kaapista ja pukeutumaan samalla tavalla. Ja se kyllä riitti. Se on kunnon kokovartalotreeni. Mutta taidan ensi kerralla jättää säärystimet pois. Nupit kaakkoon ja pumppaamaan! Oletko valmis?

My 2013 Part 1/4

Last year was just incredible for me and I'd like to look back on some of the best moments of last year.

Viime vuosi oli minulle aivan huippu, joten haluaisin palata ajassa takaisin ja hieman muistella sitä.

January

The new year started by me flying to France with a friend of mine from school and beginning my life in a strange country. It was time for my university exchange and I had been looking forward to it for really  long. The winter had started out really cold in Finland so it was just great to get to Nice where the sun was shining slightly more than back home and where minus degrees were not a problem. Our big suitcases were filled and we took a cab from the airport to my apartment. As we wanted to get to know our surroundings we headed out for a walk. I lived just one street away from the beach promenade and the center was only a 5-minute walk away so the location was perfect. 

School started and during the first day we got to know so many new people from all around the world. I'm a really sociable person so I enjoyed this a lot. I instantly made new friends, even some from my home country. It took some time to get used to the school system as it was a bit different from ours. Instead of having two different "periods" in the spring semester we just had one and all the courses during the entire spring. This meant that there were weeks that could be totally free and longer holidays were possible also. When we arrived the Christmas market was still on at the main square and we took a ride in the ferris wheel there too. In January I also visited Cannes for the first time during my stay with the two other Finnish girls. There was some shopping involved too and we saw the NRJ Music Awards at the Festival building too. And the sales started in January and here you could actually make great findings, and probably because of this I got the "reputation" of a shopaholic among my new friends. Well you only live once and why not enjoy once you are living on the French Riviera. I also did my first trip to Italy, Pisa and Florence in January, we had a really fun road trip. 

Tammikuu

Uusi vuosi alkoi sillä että lensin koulukaverini kanssa Ranskaan aloittamaan uutta elämää ja koulua. Oli opiskelijavaihdon aika jota olin odottanut todella kauan. Suomessa talvi oli alkanut todella kylmänä joten oli aivan mahtavaa päästä Nizzaan missä aurinko paistoi hieman enemmän kuin kotona ja missä pakkasasteet eivät häirinneet. Suuret matkalaukkumme olivat täynnä ja hyppäsimme kentältä taksiin ja ajoimme asunnolleni. Halusimme tutustua ympäristöön joten lähdimme pienelle kävelylle. Asuin vain yhden kadun päässä rantakadulta, ja keskusta oli vain 5 minuutin kävelymatkan päässä, täydellinen sijainti siis. 

Koulu alkoi ja ensimmäisenä päivänä tutustuimme moniin uusiin ihmisiin maailman eri kolkista. Olen todella sosiaalinen ihminen joten nautin tästä todella. Sain heti uusia ystäviä, jopa muutaman kotimaastani. Vei oman aikansa totutella koulun systeemiin sillä se poikkesi hieman meidän järjestelmästämme. Sen sijaan että kevätlukukausi olisi jaettu kahteen jaksoon oli meillä vain yksi jakso ja samat kurssit koko kevään. Tämä tarkoitti sitä että saattoi olla kokonaisia viikkoja siellä täällä vapaana, ja pidempiä lomia. Kun saavuimme Nizzaan joulumarkkinat olivat vielä auki pääaukiolla. Siellä oli myös maailmanpyörä jossa kävimme pyörähtämässä. Jo tammikuussa vierailin myös Cannesissa ensimmäisen kerran vaihtoni aikana suomityttöjen kanssa. Kävimme shoppailemassa ja siellä oli samaan aikaan myös NRJ Music Awards-tapahtuma. Tammikuussa alkoi myös ale ja sieltä saattoi tehdä todella hyviä löytöjä. Ehkä siksi sain hieman shoppailuholistin "maineen" uusien ystävieni joukossa. No kerran sitä vain eletään ja miksi sitä ei nauttisi kun kerran Ranskan Rivieralla elää. Kävimme tammikuussa myös ensimmäistä kertaa Italiassa, Pisassa ja Firenzessä. Meillä oli hauska autoreissu. 

February

In February school was becoming a more familiar place and you knew where the different classrooms are and how you'd read the schedule. February was also the time for big events on the French Riviera, such as The Nice Carnival and the Citrus Festival in Menton. I was so excited cause I also had some friends over in February and I loved showing them around in my new home, a trip to Monaco was also a must. Since I knew I was gonna do some more shopping and the distance to my home was so short I flew back home on our winter break for a few days together with my friends when they were leaving. It was so nice to see my family and I had missed our dog so much too. The days went by fast and before I knew it I was back in Nice. Traveling was becoming normal too, for example another trip to Italy (Genoa and Turin) and Geneva, Switzerland where I hung out with my sister and cousin who were there on a holiday. We also celebrated a Finnish holiday by baking the traditional buns for that. 

Helmikuu

Helmikuussa koulu oli jo tullut tutuksi ja oli helppo löytää luokkiin ja lukea lukujärjestystä. Helmikuussa Rivieralla oli suuria tapahtumia kuten Nizzan karnevaali ja Mentonin citrusfestivaalit. Olin erityisen innoissani sillä pari ystävääni olivat tulossa vierailulle ja oli ihanaa näyttää heille uutta kotiani. Reissu Monacoon oli myös pakollinen. Tiesin että tulen shoppailemaan lisää ja että koti on lähellä joten lähdin muutamaksi päiväksi kotona käymään talvilomallamme. Lensin samalla lennolla kuin ystäväni. Oli ihanaa nähdä perhettä ja koiraa oli ollut myös todella ikävä. Päivät kuluivat nopeasti eikä aikaakaan kun olin taas Nizzassa. Matkustelemisesta tuli myös enemmän arkea, esimerkiksi reissu Italiaan (Genova ja Torino) sekä Sveitsin Geneveen, jossa hengailin siskoni ja serkkuni kanssa, jotka olivat siellä lomalla. Pitihän sitä laskiaista myös juhlia tyttöjen kanssa. 

March

I was told that 2013 was the coldest spring there had been for a while, but in March we started to get some more warmth. It was also Easter and I traveled to Switzerland to visit my Swiss family I lived with for a summer when I was younger. I hadn't seen them in years and the days I spent there were some of the best ever. As it was getting warmer it was also possible to run in less clothes too, which in March in Finland would still be impossible because of the snow. I also continued going to the gym and even if the classes were in French they were easy to understand as Les Mills is the same everywhere. I really kept going from week to week. 

Maaliskuu

Minulle sanottiin että 2013 oli kylmin kevät pitkään aikaan, mutta maaliskuussa alkoi sitä lämpöäkin näkymään. Oli myös pääsiäisen aika ja matkustin Sveitsiin tapaamaan sveitsiläisperhettäni. Asuin heidän luonaan yhden kesän kun olin nuorempi. En ollut nähnyt heitä vuosiin joten viettämäni päivät siellä olivat aivan ihania. Kun alkoi tulemaan lämpimämpää oli myös mahdollista vähentää juoksuvaatteita, joka ei Suomessa olisi mahdollista maaliskuussa lumen takia. Jatkoin myös salilla käyntiä ja vaikka tunnit olivat ranskaksi oli niitä helppo ymmärtää sillä Les Mills on sama kaikkialla. Jaksoin hyvin pusertaa viikosta toiseen. 

Boxing Day in Helsinki

After spending Christmas with my family I also wanted to show my friend around Helsinki. So what do you do on a day when all shops are closed? Walk around as tourists do. We stopped by at some churches, just walking and no stress. The market square was empty, as it was only Boxing Day. I wanted to show something very traditional so we walked around until Café Strindberg opened and had some lunch and coffee there. I always like the atmosphere there, the seats are comfy and you almost feel like you're in a Parisian café. We then took the ferry to Suomenlinna fortress island and before we got back it was dark. It was getting a bit chilly so it was better to catch the tram back to my place and on the way we stopped by to get tickets to our movie for the night, The Hunger Games - Catching Fire. We had a bit time to relax and get ready before heading out to dinner and the movie, and after we were both so tired that we didn't go out for drinks as we had planned. The next day was already time to say goodbye. The time went by so fast and I really hope to see each other again soon! :)

Vietettyämme joulun perheeni kanssa oli aika näyttää Helsinkiä ystävälleni. Mitä sitä voi tehdä kun kaikki kaupat ovat kiinni? Kävellä kaupungilla turistien tapaan. Pysähdyimme matkalla kirkoilla, ja kävelimme ympäriinsä ilman huolen häivää. Kauppatori oli tyhjillään, olihan vasta Tapaninpäivä. Halusin näyttää jotain perinteistä joten odotimme kunnes Cafè Strindberg avas ovensa ja nautimme siellä lounasta ja kahvia. Pidän kahvilan tunnelmasta, istuimet ovat mukavat ja se on aivan kuin olisi pariisilaisessa kahvilassa. Lounaan jälkeen hyppäsimme Suomenlinnan lautalle ja ennen kuin ehdimme takaisin oli jo pimeää. Ilma alkoi viilenemään joten hyppäsimme raitiovaunuun ja matkalla kotiin kävimme ostamassa liput illan leffaan, Nälkäpeli - Vihan Liekit. Meillä oli hieman aikaa rentoutua ennen kuin laittauduimme ja lähdimme ulos syömään ja leffaan. Olimme leffan jälkeen molemmat niin väsyneitä että emme enää jatkaneet iltaa drinkkien merkeissä kuten alunperin suunnittelimme. Seuraavana päivänä oli jo jäähyväisten aika. Aika kului niin nopeasti ja todella toivon että näemme taas pian! :)

At Café Strindberg there were people lining up to get in before the official opening time. I could feel the warmth filling me once we stepped in. The waiters instantly circled around offering people some glasses of water to drink before ordering. Once we had made our order something weird happened. I was still checking the menu and all of a sudden my glass fell down first spilling the water on my jacket on the couch and then falling down on the floor and breaking to pieces. I swear I didn't even touch it. The waiter and I had a laugh since he was sure it was the elves who did it. Well, maybe those pieces will bring me good luck for this year.

Café Strindbergillä oli jo jonoksi ihmisiä ennen varsiaista avaamisaikaa. Tunsin kuinka lämpö täytti minut kun astuimme sisään, ulkona seisoskelu kuitenkin verottaa.
