Summer evenings @Skiffer

Summer evenings are best spent outside in the sunshine. Terraces get filled up with people to enjoy the sun, summer, good company and great food and drinks. One of my favorite spots in the Helsinki summer is Skiffer in Liuskaluoto (Kaivopuisto). A short boat ride and you can admire the view of the city, good music, see your friends and enjoy they're great pizzas. 

My personal favorite is the Soignon aka goat cheese-strawberry pizza. It might not surprise anyone anymore that I could eat goat cheese with pretty much anything. The strawberries make the pizza a bit more fresh too. Skiffer is a place where you almost every time run into friends. If you're spending the evening in a bigger group then try to head out early as the tables get filled quickly. Below are some pics from my Skiffer memories this summer. And the summer isn't over yet. ;)

Kesäillat ovat parhaimmillaan ulkosalla auringonpaisteessa. Terassit täyttyvät ihmisistä jotka tulevat nauttimaan auringosta, kesästä, hyvästä seurasta, maukkaasta ruuasta ja juomasta. Yksi kesän lempipaikoistani Helsingissä on Liuskaluodon Skiffer. Sinne pääsee siis Kaivopuistosta, ja pienen lauttamatkan jälkeen pääset nauttimaan Kaivarin maisemista. Skifferillä on myös ihanaa viettää iltaa ystävien seurassa ja nauttia hyvästä pizzasta. 

Oma suosikkini on Soignon, eli vuohenjuusto-mansikka pizza. Ketään ei varmaan yllätä että voisin syödä siis vuohenjuustoa minkä kanssa tahansa. Mansikat tekevät pizzasta, tai liuskoista kuten niitä Luodolla kutsutaan raikkaampia. Päällä on myös pinjansiemeniä ja rucolaa. Täällä törmää myös lähes aina ystäviin ja tuttuihin. Jos vietät iltaa isommassa porukassa kannattaa olla ajoissa liikenteessä sillä pöydät täyttyvät nopeasti. Alta löytyy Skiffer-muistojani tältä kesältä. Summer green outfit

Summer is the celebration of bright colors. I'm more the kinda black-and-white kinda person but I like using color too. I don't tend to shop for much unneccessaties especially when it comes to accessories, but every now and then I happen to find something in my closet that I've never actually worn. One of those things is this green mini-skirt I bought a couple of summers ago. I wanted to really think what I could combine it with and then the first blouse I pulled out of my closet happened to match with it just perfectly. The color is really bright and summer green. This will definitely be one of my summer musts. Do you tend to shop for thing you don't need?

Kesä on värien juhlaa. Itse olen enemmän sitä perusklassista musta-valko-tyyppiä mutta värit ovat myös ihania kun vain löytää sellaisia joissa viihtyy. En yleensä tee heräteostoksia varsinkaan asusteissa, mutta joskus sattuu kaapista löytymään vaatteita joita en ole koskaan käyttänyt. Yksi viimeisimmistä vaatekaapin kätköistäni on kesänvihreä minihame. Mietin pitkään minkä yläosan yhdistäisin hameeseen ja ensimmäinen paita olikin nappivalinta. Hame on ihana kesänvihreä. Tästä tulee kyllä yksi kesän must-vaatteistani. Onko teillä tapana tehdä heräteostoksia?

Magnum Helsinki

There is no summer without ice cream. We were invited to taste the Magnum "do it yourself" ice cream in Helsinki last month in honor of Magnum's 25th anniversary. The point was that you could compose your own Magnum ice cream. First the ice cream (without the chocolate shell) is dipped into either white or milk chocolate and the you choose three toppings that are mixed together and dripped on top of your ice cream. To finish it off a little bit of running chocolate for nice decorative stripes. 

From outside the line didn't look that long but once we got in the wait was almost an hour. I'd say it was worth it though, the experience itself. A little something different. I chose strawberries, blueberries and some nuts on mine. It was yummy. Did you make your own Magnum ice cream?

Jäätelö kuuluu ehdottomasti kesään. Saimme kutsun Magnumin "tee-se-itse" jäätelökahvilaan Vanhalle Ylioppilastalolle. Magnum täyttää tänä vuonna 25 vuotta joten heillä on tällaista erikoista ohjelmaa sen tiimoilta. Ideana oli siis valita omaan jäätelöön ainekset. Lähtötilanne on pelkkä Magnum vaniljajäätelö ilman suklaakuorrutetta, joka sitten dipataan valko-tai maitosuklaaseen valintasi mukaan. Tämän jälkeen valitaan kolme täytettä jotka sekoitetaan keskenään ja tiputellaan jäätelön päälle. Loppusilauksena päälle koristeraidat juoksevasta suklaasta.

Ulkoa katsottuna jono ei näyttänyt pitkältä, mutta odotus kesti kuitenkin lähes tunnin. Kokemus sinänsä oli kyllä sen arvoinen. Valitsin jäätelööni täytteiksi kuivattuja mansikoita ja mustikoita sekä pähkinöitä. Oli se kyllä herkullista. Kävitkö sinä tekemässä oman Magnumin?

Summer weekend among friends

I'm back! This summer has started crazy busy so I haven't had much time for posting but I'll try to improve. This past weekend I spent at a friend's summer house with quite a large group of old and new friends. We were mostly entrepreunistic (I just made up that word :) ) young adults who've grown up in family companies. The weekend was all about some good barbeque, getting to know each other, swim, go to the sauna and relax in the hot tub. And the lake view was just beautiful. 

The weather couldn't have been better. The sun was shining bright up high from early morning until late in the evening. Some of the guys, and one very brave girl were playing a round of golf on Saturday. I haven't had time to play in a long time so I'd need some practice before attempting to play with anyone. Up for the challenge? As the guys were playing us girls stayed by the lake and we did a little trip to a "tourist village" built close by. The lunch we had was very traditional too and made with love and care. 

As the sun had heated up the lake it was much more enjoyable to swim on Saturday than it was on Friday. We spent both evenings bathing and the party got a little loco at times but I enjoyed every moment of it. We were in the tub until early in the morning and continued our nights on the terrace. The only downside was the army of mosquitos there. My feet were literally eaten alive and we didn't get any spray until the second evening. I didn't sleep much either but somehow I felt more relaxed by the end of the weekend than I was before. So I wanna thank the host and everyone there with me, both old and new friends and hope to see you soon!

Täällä ollaan taas! Kesä on ollut hullun lailla painamista paikasta toiseen ja postailut ovat vähän jääneet mutta yritän skarpata. Viime viikonlopun vietin kaverin mökille melko isolla kaveriporukalla. Mukaan mahtui itselleni uusia kuin myöskin vanhoja tuttuja. Ryhmämme koostui pääasiassa yrittäjähenkisistä nuorista perheyritysten jatkajista. Viikonlopun tarkoitus oli grillata, tutustua paremmin, uida, saunoa ja rentoutua paljussa. Ja järvimaisemakin oli aivan upea.

Sää ei olisin voinut olla parempi. Aurinko paistoi aamusta iltaan. Osa pojista ja yksi erittäin rohkea tyttö suuntasivat pelaamaan golfia lauantaina. Huh hellettä, oli varmaan aika rankkaa pelata. Itse en ole ehtinyt pelata pitkään aikaan joten ennen kuin voisin edes harkita pelaavani jonkun kanssa pitäisi vähän treenata. Kuka tarttuu haasteeseen? Poikien pelatessa me tytöt jäimme nauttimaan auringosta järvellä ja teimme pienen reissun lähellä sijaitsevaan Perinnekylään. Myös lounas oli erittäin perinteinen hämäläinen lounaspöytä, rakkaudella katettu.

Aurinko lämmitti järveä mukavasti ja uiminen oli huomattavasti miellyttävämpää lauantaina kuin perjantaina. Molemmat illat tuli vietettyä paljussa ja meininki pääsi välillä vähän "riistäytymään käsistä", mutta tässä porukassa se oli erittäin hauskaa, joukkoon sopeutuu hyvin ja nautin joka hetkestä. Saunomisen jälkeen jatkoimme iltoja vielä terassilla. Ainoa miinus oli hyttysarmeija joka meitä vaani aina iltaisin, ja hyttysmyrkystäkin saatiin apua vasta lauantaina. Nukkuminen jäi aika vähäiseksi mutta miksi mennä nukkumaan kun voi nauttia valoisasta kesäyöstä. Olo tuntui enemmän levänneeltä tultaessa kuin mentäessä. Kiitos isännälle ja kaikille mukana olleille, uusille ja vanhoille ystäville ja tavataan taas pian. Nyt sitä ollaan sitten Next! :)
