Ciao Italia!

There wasn't much time to recover from Friday night's festivities. At 7.25am our train for Italy was going to depart. I headed with quick steps to the main railway station Nice Ville around 7am. I never wake up this early on a Saturday. I was meeting Helen and her friend Ella from Canada. There was no line so we got me my tickets fast and headed to the train. We made a switch at Ventimiglia, Italy and continued to Genoa. It was a lovely day. The sun was shining and we walked around in the city with no care in the world. We had a long lunch in the center which was quite nice but totally surprised us when we saw the bill and the waiter explained to us we had to pay several euros per person just for sitting in the restaurant! And if we'd sat outside in the sunshine we would've had to pay even more. Unbelievable! Apparently it's a custom when you are in the center of a city. Since we had time we also took a little boat trip around Genoa.

We were tired from walking around all day and fortunately we were able to take an earlier train and and by the end of the day we arrived in Turin. The railway station was bigger than I imagined, there were clothing stores there and a rather big supermarket too. We took a taxi to our Bed and Breakfast Ella had reserved (a nice couple renting a room). It was right in the center you could see Mole, the big tower in Turin, right from the window. The place felt very nice and cosy but since we were tired we just stayed in and went early to bed.

Genoa

On Sunday we slept longer than we had planned but it felt nice after all the lack of sleep. It was a little chilly so I'm glad I brought my Burberry coat cause it kept me warm. We headed out to have brunch and walk in the city. I didn't think there would be anything to see in Turin since it's more of an industrial town. We took the lift up to the Mole Antonelliana to take a look at the view. It was nice. You could still see snow in the city. In the same building there was a museum of cinema, the biggest in Italy. We learned a lot about the history of cinema and since movies are one of my great interests it was just the right place for me to visit.

We also found the Egyptian museum, which has some of the most valuable collection of Egyptian art in the world. You could see mummies several thousand years old and they still had hair on top of their head and skin on top of the bones. I love history and this really seemed like a valuable visit. When walking on the town we also did some shopping, not that we intended to. ;) When it began to become dark we took a taxi back to our house and Ella started cooking delicious and healthy dinner, salad and gnocchi. I was introducing the girls to some Finnish music, we had wine and dined. After some relaxing we decided to go out for a few drinks. In the central area there are mostly just bars, the nightclubs are further away and from what we heard from Carla, our host, their reputation isn't that good right now so we skipped that scene.

On Monday it was time to head back home. Ella continued her trip to Florence, I hope she's enjoyed the city. Me and Helen took the train back to Nice. On the border there even was a passport check on the train, luckily I brought mine. The views were just incredible when the train went on, mountains and snow everywhere. I must say it was a fun trip, but hearing the voice on the train saying Nice Ville, I felt relieved. We had to switch trains quite fast but survived. It was a fun weekend!

Nice Carnival

Friday was the opening ceremony for the Annual Nice Carnival. It is one of the oldest and most well-known carnivals in the world so I'm really excited to see what these upcoming weeks will bring. Place Massena was filled with people. Everyone was happy and dressed up for the occasion. I myself got really dressed up since afterwards was gonna be my dear friend Helen's birthday celebration. Love you H! ;) There was really some carnival feeling in the air. After the official part with speeches etc. there was a parade and the ceremony ended with some really nice fireworks.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Well today is Valentine's Day. It was a bright and sunny one. But the night is still young and we're heading out to celebrate a little and maybe see if we could find our own valentines, who knows. Team Canada aka Ginella, Mitch and Priya are having a little pre-party before the Valentine's party at Checkpoint tonight. It's only Thursday but it should be fun! :)

Here is one of my favourite songs that really suit for this day (lyric wise).

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! <3

It's a Beautiful Day

Today the weather was nice for a change. Last night was really cold when we walked home from Jonathan's Pub, you could've needed a hat even. Today the sun was shining and it really was nice. The day turned out to be really good since I finally got my French number after waiting for a month!

Since it's Wednesday I didn't have any other classes except French. We got back our first written test, I was rather happy with the result even if after checking it out I noticed so many simple mistakes I could've avoided. Should've kept up with French over the years.

I also finally booked my flight to Helsinki. Will be going home together with my friends who will come visit me next week, it'll be more fun to travel together. I'm also gonna go to Geneva Thursday next week. My little sister is going to be there for a few days with our cousin and her mother and since it's just an hour away it'll be fun to explore the city together. Can't wait!

Hauskaa laskiaistiistaita!

Ensimmäinen postaukseni suomeksi. Tänään on laskiaistiistai, jota tänä vuonna vietetään hieman erilaisissa merkeissä. Pakkanen, lumi ja pulkkamäki vaihtuu aurinkoiseen tiistaipäivään itsetehtyjen laskiaispullien (kiitos Clara ja Fanny!) ja hyvän seuran kera.

Suomitytöt Nizzassa kerääntyivät Claran ja Fannyn luokse myöhäiselle brunssille nauttimaan tyttöjen itse tekemiä laskiaispullia. Molempia sortteja löytyi, sekä hilloa että mantelia. Itse pidän enemmän ensimmäisestä. Runebergintortut jäivät tänä vuonna syömättä, mutta laskiaista sentään vietettiin. Myös Iiris liittyi seuraamme. Herkuttelun ohella juttelimme tuntikaupalla vaatteista, muodista, matkustelusta ja tietenkin pojista. Juuri näistähän sitä tyttöjen kesken juoruillaan. ;)

Hauskaa laskiaista kaikille!

Marry Me Baby

Last Saturday Finland finally chose its contestant for the Eurovision Song Contest through Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (New Music Competition). The finals are being held May 18 in our neighbour country Sweden. I think it is unfair since Sweden already has the main responsibility of the 2013 Ice Hockey World Championships (together with Finland) and now they have this too.

The song the Finnish people chose to represent our country is called Marry Me by Krista Siegfrieds. She's a 27-year old young lady with amazing talent. She wrote this song as a hint to her boyfriend she's been dating for 8 years to finally propose and he promised to do so if she makes it to ESC. Looking forward to seeing what's gonna happen. Anyway the song has gotten a lot of critic, of which a lot has been negative. The Swedish media is concerned about if this is an example you want to set to young women about marriage and love. I totally agree with Krista's opinion on this, she's her own strong personality who does not care what other people think. She knows modern women do not have to follow age old patterns. When asked about how she feels she had said "it's not my problem if people don't have sense of humour".No wonder she admires Lady Gaga, she really was born this way and proud of it, GO Krista! :) What do you think about the song?

Marry Me by Krista Siegfrids (2013)

I haven't had marriage in my plans yet, though before that I'd have to find a guy too. That doesn't mean I can't look at wedding magazines and admire beautiful rings. I know the kind I would love but it's reaching a little too high maybe. Here's the one, my dream ring.

It's the one and only Harry Winston. Actually the kind Chuck gave to Blair in Gossip Girl.

"Bass has excellent taste. The cushion cut diamond in a tapered baguette setting was designed by Harry Winston. The signature cut is classic Winston—and it embodies timeless elegance.
The ring, as seen above, is 8 carats in size and set in platinum. It is available for purchase at the Harry Winston store on Fifth Avenue in New York. The price is available upon request."

A girl can always dream right? ;)

Can't walk a mile in my YSL's

It felt really hard waking up on Friday morning knowning that I had slept only a few hours. I had a morning class and was focusing on it since the topic was interesting and the professor was talking about our upcoming midterm. This particular professor usually finishes later than others and having this class right before lunch causes of course the situation that you end up at the end of the line in the cafeteria. I still decided to grab something to eat there, most of my friends were busy with working on this huge corporate governance case. I ran into Kristin and we decided to join our friends Lukas, Quentin, Simon and Thomas having lunch outside of school at a burger place. We went up on the terrace, the weather wasn't that warm but there still was some sunshine. Simon also helped me and made the call to Free so hopefully I'll get my French SIM card next week.

Since I had no other classes I took the bus with Kristin and the guys rushed back to school. On the way home I stopped by at Casino to get some groceries and wine for the evening. When I got home I had an hour time to spend after which I had to return back to school to work on our marketing case with our group. None of us would've wanted to be there on Friday evening but it was the only time we could find. We took the bus back home to our places and I just had some quick dinner and took a shower before starting to get ready.

La Nuit Du Pitchoun was going to be held at High Club, probably the biggest and best nightclub in Nice. This was the first time here to get really dressed up so I really took my time. I managed to get quite some curls to my hair, I was quite happy with the result. :) It was time to get the new shoes in use too.

I headed to Helen and Robin's for the pre-party. There I met all of my friends and we enjoyed some wine and chatting with each other before going to the club. I'd never been there so I was really looking forward to it.

When we walked in it was like nothing I'd seen yet in Nice. This was as actual club. The coat room was quite impressive. The bars with the jackets were rotating around. I switched into my YSL's since the 14cm heels really are not meant for walking. Just like J.Lo sings

"Can't walk a mile in my YSL's...
Even if they try they still can't walk a mile in these shoes
They couldn't even lace 'em up right
Honey these pumps are too big to fill
Ten million men can't walk a mile in these shoes"

Though walking was okay dancing, not so much so at one point I just had to switch back to my other shoes, my feet thanked me the following morning. The committee organizing this party had really made an effort. We got to follow a lady performing art by hanging from the ceiling in some cloth, I've never seen that up-close, it was a little scary but marvellous.

That wasn't all. We thought dancing on the tables was something particular for this club at first but it seemed like that was a planned thing as well when a group of guys jumped up on the counter and took their shirts off, yes you heard me right. They really enjoyed the attention you could tell. ;) So summa summarum we really had a great night!
