Goodnight Europe

Well, what can I say. You've seen it all over the Internet. Not a good day for Finland at all. First the Swedish Tre Kronor (Three crowns) hockey team beat us 3-0 in the semi-final match, which I'm not surprised about since they had all their top players such as Louis Eriksson with them while the NHL representation on the Finnish team was lousy. Well Switzerland made it to the finals beating USA with the same numbers 3-0 they haven't made it even to the quarter finals since 1998 or gotten a medal since 1953 (bronze) so it would be about time. Sweden losing the game and Finland winning theirs would place Finland as number ONE in the world ranking, followed by Sweden.

The championships and the ESC being in the north this year has really risen the competition and old rivalry feel. Finland had high expectations for our Eurovision artist Krista Siegfrids, but she didn't manage to get any points from the other Scandinavian countries or other neighbors (e.g. Russia, Estonia). What on earth happened to the Scandinavian spirit? Was it all because of the girl-girl kiss she performed at the end of her act on stage? Is Europe not ready to embrace the homosexual community this publicly just yet? Sweden made sure they are by stealing the idea with a male-male kiss on stage, at the "half time act" presenting all different things Sweden is known for. The host Petra Mede was participating by singing. Her amazing outfits were designed by the French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, she looked and sounded stunning.

So, great show Sweden, but the way you've trashed us all over your newspapers this week makes me just wanna feel sorry for you. I liked all the Scandinavian songs this year. The other Scandinavian countries gave each other points, Finland even gave Norway a full 12 but received nothing in return. Well Emmelie de Forest won the competition with the song Only Teardrops, so the contest will move to Copenhagen, Denmark next year, only a stone throw and a bridge away from Malmö. Would be nice to go check out the contest live.

Anyways now it's bedtime since my family's arriving in the morning and I'm gonna go meet them at the airport early so I really need the sleep. Good night everyone, the best of luck to Finland tomorrow!
