Midsummer

This weekend has been all about celebrating the longest day of the year, which also gives people an excuse to party. In Finland and Sweden at least and some other countries for visiting the capitals and bigger cities midsummer is not the best time as most people head to their cottages and lakehouses. For those of you who did not know, the nights in Finland at summertime are light, in Lapland the sun doesn't set at all so some people find it hard sleeping. It's only a bit dark for a few hours and then the sun is up again before 4am in the south, and in the north it's called nightless night because of no sunset during summertime. If you've never experienced it you should check it out.

That's what we did on Friday as well. It's so close I rarely spend a night here but it's been relaxing to spend the entire weekend without any car noise. And since times have changed there's also tv, Internet and everything you could possibly need that you have in the city, though I'd say most people want their summer houses to feel like something different than home without all the electronics etc. Then again the modern summer houses might be even nicer and newer than people's own homes, everyone has their own style.

A big part of midsummer is barbeque. That's what my brother is good at so he took care of everything with our new grill. I also prefer grilling in the summer since it's much healthier than the pan as you don't need to use any fat for the process. We've also been swimming a lot and of course you can't miss the sauna. The moon was also incredibly bright and beautiful the other night.

It's back to business today as I gotta do some work but then a full day again tomorrow. How did you guys spend your midsummer?
